MAF Band Night

MAF Band Night, Liberton kirk Halls, 18th November 2006 @7pm, Tickets £4 Each, Start at 7pm

Some Information on the MAF Band Night

Who are "MAF"?
"MAF" (Mission Aviation Fellowship) is a very important international organisation that was founded in 1945. MAF are a Christian organisation who fly light aircraft (mainly Cessna Caravans and Cessna 206s) in remote parts of the world, e.g. Africa, Sounth East Asia, Papua New Guinea, where it is impossible to travel by road or otherwise due to difficult terrain. MAF provide Air Ambulance services, Aid Supply flights and even Air Taxi services among other things.
MAF has been involved in a number of high-profile places and situations - MAF is currently heavily involved in the ongoing crisis in Sudan (the Darfur region), delivering aid to stricken communities, and was also heavily involved in providing emergency aid flights and air ambulance services in South East Asia during the "Boxing Day Tsunami" in 2004. MAF also has a very busy operation in Papua New Guinea.

How is MAF funded?
MAF is funded entirely by donations, hence the need for the Band Night that has been organised. Due to increased operations MAF requires more money to keep funded - without funding, MAF ceases to exist - with devastating consequences for millions of people worldwide. We hope we can make a difference to MAF by having this Band Night, and also making people aware of MAF and it's vital purpose.

Why the Band Night?
As has been explained above, MAF urgently needs funding. And we hope that we can make a difference to help MAF by raising a contribution. Also, surprisingly, MAF is a relatively low-profile organisation, yet it is a vital one. We hope that the Band Night will raise awareness of MAF and it's importance in the world.

What are the details of the Band Night?
The Band Night is being held at Liberton Kirk Halls (next door and just across the road to the Liberton Inn on Kirk Brae) on Saturday 18th November 2006. The Band Night will begin at 7pm. Tickets are available now, for just £4 each, and will also be available on the door. The bands playing are mainly youth bands, although it is stressed that all ages are welcome to come along and enjoy the music. Light refreshments will be available at the Band Night. Come along and enjoy yourself!

What bands/artists are performing?
There are 5 bands on the bill, as follows (not in this order):

Scattered Little Signals
Minority
Sitting Pretty
Faint Hearted
Hot Air

SLS and Minority are new bands, this is their first gig. SLS features SP drummer Nic Ross and Phil from Feel-lion fame. Faint Hearted are an excellent band, coming all the way from Dunbar, and are guaranteed to pick up a few fans. SP and Hot Air are old "Liberton Band Night" favourites - Hot Air is what was once Death Metal, with slightly reorganised personnel, and SP breaking their lengthy hiatus to play their first gig since the beginning of the summer.
A formidable line-up, guaranteed to light the fires. Liberton is about to rock.

MAF Band Night - The Aftermath...
Well, the band night went very well indeed, and we managed to raise the excellent sum of £438 for MAF... well done to all those who donated! We had a good crowd at the band night, about 90 people showed up. Thnak you all for your support!
